Rockin’ Wednesday
Jul 16th, 2008 by turtlegirl76
Well, I’m still working on only 2 projects, and they both rock! Well, they’re both made from Socks that Rock anyway. The Spring Forward socks are definitely an addictive knit. I am already done the first and have just turned the heel on the second one.
I do believe I shall have a pair by the weekend. It’s such a fun and fast knit. I’m going to have a hard time choosing which pattern to repeat first. The Spring Forward or the Faceted Rib. Of course, I’ll probably skip both for the next sock and do a Wendyknits pattern. There’s so many things I want to cast on for. I’ve managed to hold off until I finish the Charlotte’s Web. At least that’s what I tell myself. I have done several more rows on it.
See? More Mustang Sally can be seen. Here’s the overall effect so far.
I love this shawl. The rows are just taking so long to do. They’re up to at least 20-25 minutes a row. I honestly haven’t been timing them. But if it’s as long as it feels, it’s probably longer than that. But I will have this done before the Olympics! (Warning, Ravelry links ahead) At which time, I shall put everything down and join in the Ravelympics with Team Rubberneckers and participate in the Sweater Sprint. What sweater? Why, the Central Park Hoodie. Finally. And yeah, I’m gonna attempt to complete it in 17 days. Go me! I will be swatching before that. They call that training. ![]()

Nice socks! And the shawl, of course.
I just swatched this morning for my Ravelympics sweater—which was a bad idea because now I want to cast on
Cristi
Love the shawl-it is gorgeous. I am on color 5 and it has been in time out for a couple of months. Just not sure I am loving the colors but too close not to finish!
I decided to use Cleopatra STR yarn for the spring forward socks- I think? I really wanted to knit all the patterns w/ yarn from the club as my personal challenge this year- knit something I wasn’t sure I liked-try new things-but I just am not crazy about Cleopatra.
Have a great day!
Nice! I love those socks, I need them! The way your Charlotte is blending is gorgeous!! I’m gearing up to start a second one myself.
Beautiful shawl - it looks like fall. You just made me realize I will be in Canada during the Olympics. Yay!
Dude! I am so doing the sweater sprint for team Knit Girls. February Lady Sweater, here I come.
You can totally do the CPH in 17 days. Its a great knit. You gonna knit the body in one piece? Have visions of buttons? A zipper perhaps? A cable up the hood? Oh the possibilities. Its a great knit.
CW is beautiful!!!
That event name squicks me out. Even if it wasn’t identified with that site, I don’t know if I could participate because of the weird name.
Oh, my gosh, that shawl is just beautiful! The colors blend so beautifully and they’re so bright and wonderful. Hmmm, what do I have in my stash that will let me do something of a similar ilk?
A sweater in 17 days? Wow. I can’t knit under pressure.. it totally doesn’t work for me. I love the way the shawl looks so far!
Beautiful shawl - those colors are wonderful. I like the sock pattern too..
Love the socks! The shawl is pretty too but its one of those patterns where you get the full impact when you see the finished product. Just wait until its done and blocked…you’ll have to put a tracking device on it to make sure it doesn’t disappear.
I’m feeling inspired to join in the Ravelympics–I’m thinking a skirt would be the best challenge. I’ll have to do some mulling and look over some patterns (and see what my stash can handle because I’m back on the yarn diet).
1. That shawl is freakin’ beautiful.
We have a Spanish Dancer shawl on display at my LYS. That might be about my speed and I’m actually nutso enough that I’ve been thinking about it. A little bit. Maybe.
2. I will someday knit CPH. Sprout first. Bamboo second (i bought the book from your most recent blog tour! I like it!). Allergic third. Then we’ll start talking about the two other patterns I bought on thursday. At least they’re earmarked for stash yarn!
You make the coolest shit. ::sigh:: And it’s VERY nice to see knitting on here again, Captain Crochet!
I’m not usually one to go for shawls but the color combo is just killing me with its gorgeousness. And you know those socks are on my to do list! I’ll be rooting for you at the Ravelympics - unless of course I actually decide to enter in which case you’ll be the competition!
Oh, you can TOTALLY do CPH in 17 days! You wanna talk about an addictive knit, that definitely be one.
Lovin’ Spring Forward, and I agree, addictive knit! Hehe..that’s why my CC’s will be put aside
The shawl is looking lovely! Can’t wait to see how it blocks out! As for the CPH, you of all peeps I think can do it! Not sure if you want to do the body in one piece, the KAL has the info. Better yet, think Magic loop for the sleeves if possible!
Thanks for the link to Ravelympics. I signed up for the sweater sprint too (I’m going to attempt the Urban Aran Cardigan).
Good luck. I know I’ll need some.
You make pond scum beautiful. Awesome socks, turtlegirl.
I love that shawl and it makes me really want to knit one - I think it is going to be the prettiest I’ve ever seen. I haven’t started one yet becuase it is so much work for something I’d never wear. But I’d like to figure out something to do with those colors that I would wear.
I can’t wait to see this sweater sprint. A complete sweater in 17 days will be impressive.
Your work is truly beautiful. The socks to die for and the shawl is a dream. Way to go!
LOVE love love that CW! Great color combo!
I’m gonna have to do the Spring Forward pattern as my next socks, I think…and I have just the yarn for them. Shibui that I picked up at Stitch DC. I think the colorway I got is this one: http://www.shibuiknits.com/Yarn/Yarn.php?Yarn=9&Color=S7495
I hope it doesn’t look TOO much like your pond scum! If so I’ll have to go with something else.
i know you’ve heard it many times, but CW is so, so, so gorgeous! I’m finishing up a baby blanket knit on circs right now, and I’m almost done. I can totally sympathize with you because I’m up to 580 stitches in one round now. Takes FOREVER to get through a row. Hang in there! It’s so going to be worth it.
Your sock pattern is perfect to show off a beautiful single color yarn, by the way. Lovely.
Ok I’m at a complete loss this time as to what to do for my Olympic project… the CPH is a great choice! epic enough but still semi-possible.
I absolutely *love* the shawl - that’s fabulous!
The colors in that shawl are so beautiful. Like a sunset, or for some reason I’m thinking of fiery red hair… definitely good colors. However, I think your picture of the Spring Forward socks might have put me over the edge. I may be allowing thoughts of a sock yarn heist into my mind so that I can get more sock yarn so I can KNIT THOSE SOCKS. (Dear LYSs, don’t listen to me, I swear it won’t happen… I hope…)
Have I mentioned that I just love love those socks? The color is completely up my alley. The shawl makes me jealous too cause I can’t quite get to lace yet.
Gorgeous color transitions in the shawl - the yarn choices are stunning. Also, I am green with envy over your lovely Spring Forward sock. Nice work!
[...] to a place with a decent sock yarn selection! I need more, for Knitty’s Spring Forward—Turtlegirl76’s has knocked me over and made me realize how much I need these socks. And I’m still knitting [...]
