Faceted Rib Socks
Jul 3rd, 2008 by turtlegirl76
Sorry so late! I just got settled in at my sisters and hooked up on her network. So it’s a bit late of a blog entry today.
Ok, so these have been done for at least a week now. But with all the other FO’s they didn’t get their chance to shine until today.

A complete pair! Yay!
I loved this pattern! I did convert it to toe-up rather easily. I just followed the pattern backwards. I found how many stitches they intended for me to kitchner at the end, and did that many for Judy’s Magic Cast-on. I like to use a KFB increase for my toes. Gives it a neat look.

Behold, a toe
Once I got to the point where I had to decide what to do with the heel, I decided I wanted to keep the gusset and heel flap, so I found Wendy’s toe-up sliip stitch heel, and found the stitch count I had and matched it up to hers and was good to go. I had started out with 60 stitches but since I used her heel for a 64 stitch sock, that’s what I ended up with after the heel turn. Fortunately, this pattern isn’t as stretchy as you’d think, so those extra 4 stitches were very handy. I LOVE this heel.

Heel Flap in disguise. Thought it was knit from the cuff down didn’t ya?
The slip stitch pattern work so fabulously with the hand-painted yarn. No pooling, no flashing, just very, very consistent patterning.

Look ma! No pooling!
These socks were an emergency knit. I had been given the task of knitting up this prototype yarn for Artsygal back at Maryland Sheep and Wool this year. It sat in a bag for a few weeks before Artsygal poked at me and asked if I could get it knit up. She had hoped to have a batch ready to sell by now, but life has taken a fortuitous turn for her, and she’s packing up and moving to California to do the dye thing full time. She estimates that this 3-ply base yarn will be dyed and ready to sell sometime in August. I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s available.
She’s going to try and duplicate this colorway as well.

Yay.. I get first comment? Awesome! You did an awesome job on the socks too.. I’m going to have to knit that pattern sometime. It may just be car knitting for that 5 day cross country drive! Mindless enough for car knitting, potentially in the dark? I may have to pocket one of the skeins I just listed that’s been calling me to knit the pattern!
I really love how that pattern looks finished. I may just have to cue it up! So hey, as someone who just came back from Portland, nice weather up there, huh? HOLY crap it’s hot down here though!
I love, Love, LOVE the socks. It’s the perfect pattern to show off the glory of the yarn. And I can totally work out the stitch pattern from your excellent picture. Just saying…
Oh, and I’ve also used that heel flap for toe-ups. It’s fab, isn’t it!
Oh.. I forgot to also mention - yes, the yarn is superwash. You don’t think I’d try to hand you non-superwash SOCK yarn do you? That’s no longer sock yarn then, it’s fingering weight yarn!
Nicely done! I’m going to have to try that heel, now that I have confirmed that I am in no way, shape or form a fan of short row heels. I still love Cat’s New Pathways heels like no other, but I need to have more tools in my kit, as it were.
Glad you’re out on the left coast with the fam. Have a great trip!
I heart this colorway!! It is so pretty! And the slip stitch pattern works so well with it! Great job!
Welcome to the west coast! Did you get the major thunderstorm at 3/4 am? Are you coming down pdx way at all?
Have a great vacation, and thanks for the link to Wendy’s heel; gonna go check that out right now.
Love it! I’m definitely going to buy that yarn in that colorway! So cute
Ok… so I’m in LOVE with those socks!!! I can just imagine how lovely they would be to slip on the feet.
Oh, it looks great! The pattern and yarn really complement each other.
I was just wondering if you were okay, with no blog post yet
Mmmmmm, them be gorgeous!!
I have seen these in person and they are wonderful…PS I miss you….PP
Those are really interesting–they look like two socks fused together at the sides.
Artsy’s moving to CA? Awwww…good for her for livin’ the dream, but I just met her out here!
cute, cute, cute! Seems like you are turning out finished knits left and right. Love the colorway!
Gorgeous as always!
Love the socks!! I’ve done that heel before and thanks for reminding me of it too!
Beautiful socks, and an imaginative job of posing them for photos!
Soo pretty! I love the colorway.
Them’s purty! I really like that heel flap– you might just convert me to toe up!
Those are fabulous! I’m knitting my first toe up socks, and I really, really like the look of that flap.
Pretty colors… why do all of your blog posts make me want to buy sock yarn?
Sometimes I am astonished by the amount of knitting that you do.
Nice socks.
There’s a lot of slipped stitches in there … how do you find them for stretchiness? Did you have to use a larger number of stitches than you would normally, or a larger needle?
