Yarn Pirate June Shipment
Jun 27th, 2008 by turtlegirl76
There’s your damn spoiler warning you non-peekers you. I think everyone in the booty club should have their shipment by now but just in case some poor delicate soul out there hasn’t yet, look away ‘cus I’m about to post pictures.

See that black? That’s the last you’ll see it. Talk about hard to photograph!
This is the last shipment I’ll be receiving from Yarn Pirate for a little while. I had to drop out of this club too. I’m so sad. First Artsygal and now Yarn Pirate. Next thing you know I’ll have to dropout of my fiber clubs too.
This shipment is dyed on a base of Superwash BFL. 420 yards of it. It feels so nice. The colorway is named “June Bug.” I’m still not sold on the color combination. I’m reserving judgment until I see it knit up. The black seems to have a purple tint to it, which intrigues me. But over all, I’m not digging the colors. But I’m also not going to turn around and destash it right away.
There are several members of the club that have already posted their June Bug up for sale. Some even before the rest of the booty club members had received theirs! I wondered if they got whiplash with as fast as they turned around to sell it. It made me sad to see so many people wanting to destash their booty so quickly after receiving it. Georgia (they dyer) was on vacation when it all started to be received. I can only imagine how she felt when she got back to see all the destashing.
So I will wait and see if this grows on me. I will wait until I see a few FOs made out of it. I will wait, lest I live to regret it. Because the colors really are pretty. I think it’s the grey-ish green and the black that’s not doing it for me. But it may look completely different knit up.

It’s funny how we’re all different. I love the blue and the black, it’s the purple I’m not sure about. But I’m keeping mine since I got lucky and received the new BFL base. Did you see that it looks like there are still club openings? It’s SO tempting to get my spot back…
I don’t know - I think all the colors are really pretty, but I do like the purple and teal-ish color the best. That would suck to see everyone destashing your latest project, but I guess looking at it the other way, she’d probably rather see someone else get it who would actually use it than have it sit in someone’s close unused. (Now I need to apply that theory to myself as I have a couple of things I’ve gotten as gifts that I’m dying to destash, but haven’t quite had the nerve to do so.)
Wow - I’m surprised people don’t like it. I think it’s awesome!
I love all the colors together. It’s beautiful yarn.
I love it. I think it will be totally awesome when knit up.
If you decide to destash it—let me know! I think it’s gorgeous!
I love all the colors, but I’m having trouble thinking of a good project to show them off all together. It’s a really different combination. With the black, probably not lace, but a textured stitch pattern, maybe? Is there something related to like a houndstooth check kind of pattern?
Oh, I love the colors - I hope seeing it knit up will change your mind. I can’t believe so many people are trying to get rid of this already.
I love these colors together. Let me know if you decide to destash.
Hehe..um..*cough* perfectly said! YKWIM too! ;0
I really like these colors. It looks like Mardi Gras to me.
I love it too. Hey, there’s a reason we aren’t all the same. If it was just me, there would be very little pink in this world and even fewer muted tones.
Have a wonderful weekend!
To me, the great thing about a club is that you get to try colours and fibres you wouldn’t necessarily pick yourself. Maybe you’ll grow to like the yarn or (hint, hint) you’ll find someone who does!?
Eh, you win some you lose some. As long as you don’t dye 12 mos worth of club yarns that no one likes, people won’t really care in the long run.
I don’t think it’s bad at all. I think it captures the essence of a June Bug quite well. But then again I’ve always been a sucker for an aptly named yarn no matter what it looked like.
Feel free to gift it to me
Hopefully your last package of Dragonfibers fiber club will appeal to you more than the sock yarn has.
I love the purple and tealy green. Not sure about the black. But I think it would make beautiful socks, nonetheless!
I totally want this yarn because my daughter is named June and I call her June Bug all the time! I’m kinda psyched people are destashing it, maybe I can get some on Ravelry!
PS: that’s a really cool looking turtle. So textural!
Guess this shows that it’s possible to create a “purple” colorway that the majority of knitters won’t swoon over. Since I generally don’t like purple, I just grit my teeth when joining a sock club, because I know that at least one shipment will be purple. Case in point: the current STR offering, “Shrinking Violet”, leaves me cold. You did a fine job of photographing “June Bug”, so that it looks quite nice against the green patina of the tabletop.
I know what you mean about the destashing. Sometimes I think people just join the club to resell it later because sometimes the prices are outrageous. I have destashed some club yarns, but always for trade, not for sale. I’m not sure what to do with the June Bug yet, either. But I’m sure the right project will come along.
I’m with you on this. Don’t know about the color combo. But I’m going to ravel it before deciding.
Oh, wow, I think the colors are pretty. And the whiplash destashers are draining their karma bank. I think it’s sucky. I like that STR makes you agree not to sell their club selections for a year.
Ummm … put me on the list of happy to grab a destash - heck, there’s enough of us you could *auction* it! It contains almost all my favourite colours AND it’s BFL? Genius. I added it to my faves as soon as it appeared in your Rav stash. If it weren’t for the yarn fast I’m on, I’d go looking for one of those other destashers. Mebbe I’ll just check the price …. ::whistles to self::
Hmmmmm………….I like the colors too but I’m not sure I like them all together. I’m sure you can find SOMETHING to crochet out of it though!! Like a bikini for whitewater rafting in maybe????
I bet you anything it looks very different when knit up. I’ve seen that happen so many times.
I’m in the club too (and this was my last shipment too) and I agree about the destashers. I thought it was crazy how fast the turn around was. I got my skein and it had been rewound. Gives a whole ‘nother view to the yarn.
I guess to each their own, huh?
Awww,, its such a pretty, pretty skein too. Poor little colorway being picked on without being given a chance. Hold on to it,,, something in the colors will speak to you of what to make of it!
I’m surprised. I would have considered June Bug to be one of the more approachable colorways of YP. Many of them seem to hinge on being extremely unexpected and this one is a bit subtler, but very pretty.
Hmm. I went and looked at Ravelry and yes, holymuthasockyarn, a lotta people are destashing this colorway. What’s odd is that I like the skeins with that light, silvery blue in it, but I don’t blame some people who are detashing who seemed to have gotten a navy-blue/purply pink colorway , instead of teal/dark blue/silvery blue/purple, which is very nice. I wonder if the color just came out inconsistently or something. I’ve never dyed in my life, so I have no idea if that happens or not.
I’ve never been able to subscribe to a sock club and I probably would be way too afraid to do so. (I’m picky and since cash is limited, I don’t like to spend it on random yarns that I don’t absolutely love) I think the only person that I would feel that I could “risk” a club would be Kate at Yarn Love, but she hasn’t done one, at least yet.
Very very pretty!! I’ll be interested to see how it knits up though too
