Madeira Breeze
Jun 26th, 2008 by turtlegirl76
So, immediately after casting off (? chaining off? fastening off? eh, finishing) Violet Beauregard, I started another crochet project. This time I chose something that could be finished quickly, yet still pose a challenge. Madeira Breeze fit the bill.
Just a quick shrug done in an interesting mesh pattern, with picot edging all the way around.
I know I have broad shoulders, and I still have this thought that I’m bigger than I am, so I chose to make the M/L size.
That was a mistake. I mean, it doesn’t look bad, it’s just -uhh - “roomy”. And I will keep in mind that I have not blocked it yet and that may work out in my favor when I do. I do like the length of it in the back.
Which, because it is that length, is why the arms are a bit loose, so there you have it. Conundrum, eh? But I’m definitely happy with it. The pattern was a mere $2.50 Ravelry Download. It was easy enough to follow (especially once I e-mailed Lisa Gentry - the designer - with my questions) once I sussed out that some of the terms she was using were interchangeable (can I get some support for consistency? I hear it’s a good thing.) I’m still figuring out crochet pattern terminology, and that was probably my own issue and not the designers, but hey, it’s what I need. Sue me.

Check out my gaping armholes

VERY cute!
And yay Knitterboy! I’ll have to go congratulate him.
Holy gaping armholes, Batman! Sorry, not sure what’s wrong with me this morning. It’s cute! The picot looks fantastic. I hear you about thinking you’re bigger than you are. It’ll take a while to adjust. The opposite of that is the phenomenon of guys who haul their 40 extra pounds of beer gut over their pants so they can still wear their 32-inch waist–”I’m the same size I was in high school!” Mmmhmm…
You look so amazing, it’s becoming criminal! Too bad about the arm holes, the back looks fab! I say, if it was so quick to hook up (is that a term?) make the smaller size and gift this one.
Wow! That color is great on you! Even with the large armholes, I still am envious of your crochet-skillz! And huzzah for knitterboy!
I actually like the looser arm holes on it. The color is great, too.
Congrats to Knitterboy!!
I love it!!! Can I have your hair?????
Obviously I’m missing some news about knitterboy ::off to go read further blogging material::
Lovely little (!) shrug and the photo location is uber sexeh! Gotta love the pick-up truck in the background!
Dayum! That’s sexy! Almost makes me want to pick up the hook again. Almost.
It’s cute! Are you going to “fix” it to fit better, or just use it as it ? Just wondering how one would fix the gapes…I often get them
Cute! I have been looking for ideas for my cotton yarn stash!
You looked great in it when I saw you. Did wearing it stretch it? Remember the yarn you used has no memory. Now you can knit one in some bodacious luxury yarn and know it will fit.
Very cute, and very quick. Everything looks cute on you!
Glad to hear that Knitterboy is moving; more local knit friends for you! Always a good thing.
Super cute! You’re making me want to start seriously picking up the crochet again… must remember that it hurts my wrists to crochet too much…
All this crochet is making me want to find my hooks and start playing with it again. Woo hoo…only a week more and you will be in my neck of the woods!
Very cute! And congrats to Knitterboy!
nicely done, once again. and i don’t know knitterboy from adam but if he’s happy with the new job, YAY!
It’s really cute. I love the color and the length on it too.
Congrats to Knitterboy!
You are so cute and tiny!
I hate to be the one to break it to you, honey, but you’re not M/L. Just sayin’…
Super cute! I may have to attempt that one, crochet-tard that I am.
Wow! That was fast (and pretty!)
That mesh pattern looks really great. Maybe with a good wash those armholes could be prompted to behave. Hope so, it looks great!
You only have gaping armholes when you make an item to fit the old you! The arms look fine, actually it is a really nice “crochet”. Looks great.
Totally, totally cute! Glad you put the yarn to good use!
Adorable!! I couldn’t tell it was a wee bit too big until you showed us the armholes.
Yay Knitterboy!
Nice FO, even though it’s roomy. And yeah, you are really looking great these days!
Aah you are becoming quitte The Hooker! ;o) Haha!
I like that last pic of you! I rather of roomy than too tight!
Cute! Great crochet! I love the back. You are very good at selecting crochet patterns that work for garments. I must confess, though, that “shrugs” strike me as basically impractical. Am I correct that the reason to make “Madeira Breeze” is simply to have something new to wear that looks good? This one certainly does that!
I think it looks great gaps and all.
Is it uncomfortable though?
Nice, I think it has a little sexy look to it.
Vicki
Looks cute! Crocheting a lot lately, aren’t we?
Looks just grand….but I hate to tell you there ain’t nothing large about ya sweetie…you look great…pp
It doesn’t slip off with the armholes? I’m about to cast on a knitted shrug somewhat similar and I never thought about the armholes!
Love it! I’ve been obsessively practicing my crochet stitches the past day or so. I think it’s time to throw caution to the wind and give something a go at this point. Must go see to JPs blog to congratulate him…
Do you like the cascade pima tencel? I have a cardigan pattern that calls for the elite pima tencel (wallet says ouch!) and I’m hunting for a sub.
OK. Now you’ve gone and done it. I’ve been seeing all these crocheted objects showing up on knitting blogs and I’m thinking “cute, but not enough for me to dig out a hook and give it a go.” Not so with Madeira Breeze. Absolutely adorable. You did a fabulous job. Thanks for the inspiration!
You’re a crochet addict! What’s going on around here?!?!?!
Cute! I love little shrugs like that. ^_^
Very nice! Between the market bag and this shrug you are inspiring me to start crocheting again!
