WiPs and Vessels
Jun 25th, 2008 by turtlegirl76
I have just been cranking out the FOs since last Wednesday. So I only have 3 WiPs to show you (2 were started since last Wednesday). And of course, they’re all in bags or a yarn bowl. If you’re going to knit or crochet, do it in style right? First up is the second Faceted Rib sock.

Yes, my sock is Emergency Knitting.
I am about to start the 1×1 ribbing at the top and this baby is DONE! I have loved every second of knitting these socks. But I shall wax poetic on them in the FO post sometime next week (I have something for tomorrow and probably this weekend too so it’ll be Monday or Tuesday before I can get to the socks. That is, if Artsygal is ready with the yarn.) I wanted to try and show you just how squooshy this slipped rib pattern is.
<Squoosh me. You know you wanna.
It’s hard to show you just how airy and springy the knitted fabric is. I love this stitch pattern! But anyway. Next week I head off to Seattle to visit my two sisters, nephew & BiL Jon. Part of that trip is also serving to deliver in person the Candy Corn Socks to the Big Sis, and to my sister Candi, her birthday present. I’d promised her an Anthropologie Inspired Capelet, but never could find the right color of Noro Taiyo I wanted to make it in for her. But I did have something in my stash that I knew she’d like. How do I know this? She bought it for me.

Shouldn’t all capelets start out life in a yarn bowl?
I’m making it out of Colinette Iona. It’s a 70% Wool, 15% Kid Mohair and 15% Luxury Silk blend. I knew that I’d most likely not be able to wear anything made from it because of the mohair. In fact, I’m having some difficulty knitting with it. Fortunately, Gloves in a Bottle seem to be helping me be able to work on it without too much irritation. I love the colors and I know she will too. I have 2 hanks of it and I’m only halfway through the first. So that should mean I can get some elbow length sleeves out of it and a lengthened torso, just like the first one I made.
Last up, my new crochet project (I swear it’s soon to be joined by another as soon as I choose the right stash yarn for it). I started a Boteh Scarf out of some Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Icehouse I had in my stash. Sense a theme? I’m trying my hardest to knit/crochet from stash. The Jayne hat couldn’t be helped, but I can certainly be more conscientious of my other choices!

When you absolutely, positively HAVE to crochet NOW, the Emergency Crochet Bag
This is a fun knit. I did most of this last night while Knitterboy76 & I were watching the new Deadliest Catch. Speaking of which, JP is here in town for another interview! It’s at 10am this morning so be sure to send out good interview mojo his way! The sooner he gets a job, the sooner he can move here to Charlotte!
ETA: Just got back from lunch with JP and the interview was 2 hours long! It went really well and he’s supposed to hear from HR by the end of today! Cross your fingers! YAY!

Deadliest Catch! I love that show and stayed up tooo late watching it on TiVo last night. At least now I’m all caught up
You make the coolest stuff in the nicest colors. Well-done as always!
I love the socks…Is that sock #2? See ya at BAM.
Love the squooshy sock pictures. And I love the colors in your new crochet project. Very pretty.
Woohoo! The Boteh scarf! You and Pam and I will match now
And hey, don’t you mean it’s a fun *crochet*?
Bah. Deadliest Catch. Two timing no good girl at every port porno watching jackass fisherman. Oh sorry, I’m projecting. But one rotten opie might spoil the haul
See this is why I’m afraid to learn to crochet–I’ve got enough stuff I want to knit!!!
I so love those socks!! And the scarf, oh the scarf. You are making me want to trash my wannabe crochet projects and go for it!
I really do need to crochet the Boteh Scarf someday. But, like Bezzie, I have a ton of stuff to knit! That capelet yarn is gorgeous!
You are a super fast knitter! Wow.
And you have the blue bag as well - each visit to your site reminds me of how shallow I am. I am always (slightly) envious before I go.
I watch DC too. We just got caught up last night. I lvoe the socks and my copy of the pattern should be here today. I had to order it after I saw your socks last week.
Alot of those Deadliest Catch boats are docked in Seattle - and if you’re nice to the guys they’ll let you on the boat! My friend just went there in May and she made friends with all the guys on the Time Bandit. She even has a picture of herself sitting in the captain’s chair! You should totally check that out while you’re there.
The colors in that sock look great. And that glove in a bottle… how crazy is that?
After having to move my stash and realizing how many bins it took to contain it.. I’m going to be knitting from stash for a LONG time.
Hey, Boteh Scarf! That one’s on my list, too. (If I ever get the HH book I swapped for a month ago, that is.)
Will keep my fingers crossed for JP! Two hour interview is an excellent sign!
Those socks are going to be sooooooo pretty!! Lovely color! And the pattern works perfectly!
And yay for those capelets!! So cute….I need to get on that for my sister too! The Iona is gorgeous!
Ohh, I likey those socks! Hmmm may have to start crocheting just to get through some sock yarn stash ;P Love the capelet. I have it in another colorway….hmmm
Vibing here for JP!!!
You are such a sweetie. Your sisters will be spoiled for sure.
The scarf will be fabu! I love mine out of that pattern. I bought the magazine so that I could knit the scarf. I then was debating what yarn to use on my drive home one night and came home to a package of yarn with the perfect one inside.
Let me know what days exactly you will be visiting and I can tell you which of those I am free to come up for a meetup.
A lot of mohair is yucky, but a good mohair (kidsilk haze, anyone) makes me feel bad for someone who gets irritated by it. That emergency crochet is very beautiful, btw.
You’re going to Seattle?! I am so jealous. I went to Seattle for my 40th birthday and had a blast. It snowed while I was there so that was a really great birthday present. Then I went and hit a bunch of yarn shops while I was there. Seattle has some rocking yarn shops for sure!
The sock looks wonderful and soft.
Honestly,, how do you find the time? Knitting, crocheting,, photoshoots by the pool, lol. I love all the knitting stash and tools. My god I think you are the only other person other than me to have so many doodads! And at least you use them all!
OK - YAY for Knitterboy! AND YAY for yarn bowls!!!!
