They Look Good Enough to Eat

Though I wouldn’t recommend it.
The Sister Socks are done. My first time doing 2 socks at once on magic loop - and I really enjoyed it! Once you get the hang of handling the yarn so it doesn’t become a complete mess, it’s quite enjoyable.
I used Judy’s Magic Cast-On (as usual) for my toes, casting on 10 to each needle and increasing to 48 stitches. I prefer a KFB for my increases. No holes, and I can see if I just did an increase a helluvalot easier than if I used an M1.
I like the way the toes came out. The heels on the other hand…
Not so much. I mean they’re ok. The wrapped stitches are harder to conceal with sport weight yarn. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.)
I know with wear the holes will fill in and really, they’re just bulky, not really holey. But still. It annoys me. And now that I’ve mastered the toe-up gusset heel, I probably won’t be doing many short row heels anymore.
3 by 1 ribbing on the cuff. It doesn’t interrupt the beauty of the stripes and makes for a nice comfy cuff. My sister really likes the feel of it so that’s what I use. But I still feel compelled to end with 1×1 ribbing.
It just gives it that nice “finished” look. To me anyway.
Project: Sister Socks (um, pair #6)
Pattern: My Own
Yarn: Hill Country Yarns Instant Gratification Sock Yarn in “Candy Corn”
Needles: US 6
Started: April 25th 2008
Finished: June 17th 2008
Notes: These could have been done much sooner but were knit as part of a private class. I save the heel turning for class #2 so several weeks went by where I didn’t touch them. Will I do 2 at once on 1 circ again? You betcha. I’ve already got 2 more pairs in the works like that! I do enjoy one at a time for portable knitting though. It’s much easier to get through 1 row on 1 sock at a traffic light than 1 row on 2 socks.

Gah! Now I realy, really wanna try Insta-Gratis sock yarn!!! What yummy looking socks:)
They are gorgeous - love the colors! As for the short-row heel - have you tried the Priscilla Gibson-Roberts short-row technique? No wraps, no picking up wraps - just a backwards yarn over and some K3togs - it’s great, and gorgeous, and un-holey. You can see it at http://dlainjackson.pbwiki.com/f/pgrdreamsocks.pdf
I’ve used it with a sport weight before with no problems at all. I will say that it’s nigh unto impossible to do it 2 at a time though. I also like the idea of a KFB to do the toe increases - I absolutely hate M1s, and they are the main reason I don’t do toe-up.
How did you like the IG yarn? I’ve used three skeins and was rather disappointed. Knots in the first one and broken yarn in the second two. http://tinyurl.com/4vxogy
So sad as I loved the yarn, loved working with. Much prefer the sport weight for socks.
Wow, those are lovely.
Go on with your mad 2 socksy at a time skillz!
Since I loathe candy corn, I’ll leave my share for you to eat
Nicely done, though! Excellent! I have that yarn in multiple colorways in my stash, so it will probably be making an appearance during Summer of Socks. That 3×1 rib looks fantastic!
Nice socks!!
And, either you knit at lightning speed or you need to move to an area where traffic lights change more frequently!!!
Maybe my next project needs to use some Instant Gratification since I got 4 skeins…
I love ‘em! Short-row heels bug me on a couple different levels. I personally think yours look fine, and I love the look of 1×1 rib at the top.
Very pretty….. I do like your toe…..I made need to use that one next time!
Ohh I love the kfb for the toe increases!! Gonna try that next time! Fab sister socks!!
Purty! I really like how that colorway knit up. I’ve done the two on one thing…. hehehehehehehehehehe… now I can’t remember what I was gonna say…
Love the socks.. I love the smell of candy corn but I can’t eat it because its too sweet for me. My ‘default sock pattern’ is Magic Loop Turkish cast on with a kfb increase.. I think it looks the nicest and I like that it doesn’t leave holes. I won’t ever do a flap heel again because the short row (I use the ‘no hole’ technique with the wraps & the k3tog) heel fits me the best.. plus I like not picking up stitches. I also like that you changed up the ribbing at the top of the sock.. I don’t really like the way socks that just bind off in pattern look.. they seem unfinished to me as well.
for all you fellow candy corn haters….

(The socks look great though)
Love the socks, and thanks for the tip. I need to figure out the toe up gusset heel. I’ve had no luck with short row heels but I want to switch to toe up socks, so sounds like a great match!
Those look great!!! Eating socks sounds like it might require a surgical repair later so no, I don’t recommend that either!
I love how sunny and happy they look. Good job!
You really like these colors . . . I see them repeated and repeated in the items you make. Great pattern design, too. Simple to show off the colors.
Gorgeous color!
Those are fabulous!! Hope she loves them
Very nice! I quite like how well behaved the yarn is .. sorta stripey, no blotches or pooling. When yarn behaves that nicely, I’d do a short row heel too. A gusset would’ve likely messed up the stripes. I’m don’t usually go toe up, but on the few occasions I have, kfb has worked perfectly well. Are those YO short rows on the heel? I wonder if the Sherman heel or Japanese short rows would have produced a smoother result in a thicker yarn like that. Hmmm, may have to try that.
You’re inspiring me to try the whole 2 at once thing. Makes me nervous but maybe next time I’ll try.
Nice, very nice, love the colors also.

How can anyone hate candy corn? Now your sis can have it in her belly and on her feet! (I consider it the start of the great-holiday-candy season: Candy Corn for Halloween, Mint M&Ms for Christmas, and Cadbury Mini Eggs for Easter).
They look lovely!! But I’m wondering….when can I take your toe-up gusset heel class?
What a lovely pair of socks! I have the same problem with sport weight yarn, the wraps don’t come out as nice. Although that’s not going to get me to go back to heel flaps!
Yeah they do look good to eat. They kinda make you wanna gnaw on them. Candy Corns definitely come to mind.
Don’t like candy corn but LOVE those colors. Nice work
They’re really cute…I gotta ask–which sister?
