One More Mission Accomplished
May 26th, 2008 by turtlegirl76
I honestly thought I’d give up before I finally finished spinning this.
A full 8oz of fiber, finally completed. I’d never spun more than 4oz of anything before, and even that had taken me a while to complete. It took La’s Mission Possible to get me to pose this challenge to myself. And joining a fiber club sending me 8oz each month to spur me on.
Well, Carol, it’s finally done. The first shipment, received at the end of January, is finally spun.
The color is named “Peonies” and was shades of pink throughout the giant poof of fiber. There was even some burnt orange in parts to give the roving some interest.
Sure, I’d go a week or more between spinning sessions, but when I did sit down and spin, I’d do half a bobbin or more at a time. Now that I have Al, my spinning time has dramatically increased. I even have something already lined up for next Monday to show you. And if I play my cards right, the monday after that too! (Carrie, can you handle it?)
I came away from this whole project with 775 yards of yarn. It came out to 12 wraps per inch, putting it squarely in the worsted weight category.
It’s mostly consistent. Probably, well, most definitely, the best yarn I’ve spun to date. I have no idea what to do with it. I’m thinking a shawl, but I think also I need to consider the fact that the 10% mohair content still made me itch as I was handling it for this photoshoot. Funnily enough, the spinning of it wasn’t so bad. I cannot explain that. Ah well. Started on January 25th and finished up on May 24th, I think I’ll be going back to smaller batches of fiber for a little bit. Instant gratification and all. ![]()

B E A U T I F U L !!
I love the colors and it looks like yarn I would buy.
Congratulations on finishing and the peonies are not even in bloom yet!
Very pretty
I saw something similar at MDSW that I considered buying to make a school vest for Willow (because it would fit within the dress code rules) - but it was not superwash and anything made for her has to be able to be tossed in the machine. I can’t wait to see what you make of it!
Way to go. It sure is bright! Something to go along with the skirt perhaps?
It’s just gorgeous. Good job! I have a little sumpin’ sumpin’ I need to send to you. Can I have your addy? I promise I won’t sell it to anyone!
Gorgeous yarn! It’s very cheery.
It’s beautiful! Whew, bet you’re glad its done with too!
Oh, pretty! And 775 yards…wow. That’s a big project. Shawl sounds great, except for your tragic mohair intolerance. Something you’d wear over a turtleneck? Except you live in the South, too, and one layer is almost always enough. Some kind of layering piece, but I’m not sure I’d suggest vest, and I can’t think of anything else right now. The color is gorgeous, that’s for sure.
Well I don’t think I need to tell that it’s absolutely gorgeous! Aren’t you proud of it? In a weird way? The plying is really well done too.
Purty! Me likey pink and orange! And 775 worsted weight - nice! I can’t contribute any ideas on what to do with it, though. Me no likey mohair.
Yay for crossing another thing off your mission possible list! This yarn came out gorgeous and great job on the consistency too! What’s up next off the mission possible list?
Great job spinning! That’s a lot of yardage!
Nice! Love how bright the pink is.
I love the colors and I just love the way handspun looks. The yarn is lovely - I can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Oooooh! I wanna lick it.
oooh, so preety. it looks like psychadelic cotton candy. i’d make leg warmers, but that’s me. and there is that itch factor to consider.
Very nice! Good for you for getting through all 8 oz!
Very nice!! I need to sit down and commit to more than 4 oz myself–it takes about 2 hours for 4 oz so I guess I’d need about 4 hours to get these kind of results!
That is beautiful!
Hopefully the mohair doesn’t keep bothering you.
I love that it is so soft, but hate the way it feels against my skin — and leaves little hairs on clothing.
Yea! you plowed through and made…get this…yarn!! So fantastic, about the only thing better is when you plow through baking and the result is a cake!
ooooh love the pink. I can’t wait to see what you knit from it.
Wonder why you can spin the mohair without problems. That’s interesting. This is very pretty, though I’d never describe myself as a fan of pink.
Pretty in pink dahling!
Ooooh shiny! anything more than 4oz seems to be my breaking point. It takes forever and I get real sick of it before I’m done…
Very pretty! It looks great!
Uh-oh. Busted. Totally busted for not having posted in weeks. *shame* You however are making me proud! That stuff is gorgeous!
It looks great! Excellent yardage, too.
OMG dude the color, the weight. it’s all gawjus!! nice spinning!!!!!
and if you made a pink gable you could wear it over a tank top!
