Turtle Butt - on a Stick!
May 19th, 2008 by turtlegirl76
OK so I’m no Jeff Dunham but look! I have a turtle on a stick!
Isn’t it the coolest spindle you have ever seen? It works too! Yesterday we had another dyeing session, this time over at Jetsyknits‘ place. Her husband surprised me with this spindle he made for me!
She drew it onto the whorl, and he took it from there and painted it and got it all balanced and everything! Isn’t it fun? You should see the neat one he made for her with a Chinese coin inlaid into the whorl and some wood burning done around the edges to make it all antiquey. I keep asking when he’s going to open an etsy shop. He really should. He does great work.
I was a terrible blogger this weekend and only got some pictures for Stacey, so all I can really show you is a preview for what I did yesterday.
The purple was just some Peaches ‘n Cream from a cone that I hanked up (all 803 yards of it)and dyed in a kettle with some Rit Dye. It turned out fantastic! The rest was all over-dyed. The roving was some Swaledale I had that I attempted to add some color to. It should turn out pretty cool once spun up. We shall see! A good time was had by all yesterday, that’s for sure. Thanks, Jetsyknits for hosting!

Oooh, neat spindle. And pretty dyeing, too!
Ooh that is a great spindle Preston made for you! I got to see his othe ones and he really should open up an Etsy shop!!
That sugar ‘n cream came out great! The pic does it no justice!
Ahhh! That spindle is the cutest thing I’ve seen!
Now you can sit on your porch and shake your turtle-stick at the kids going by… Seriously, that spindle is so cool! Fun colors you worked on this weekend, too.
That purple is to dye for. Literally! With no dying experience at all (yet!) you’ve tempted me to get a few hanks of bare wool and just dye them up with some RIT! (RIT works with wool too, right?)
I’m so glad you like your little turtle. We had the best time designing and making him for you!
I’ll post a picture of my Chinese Coin spindle when I get home. Can’t do blog photo uploads from the office. It’s very inconvenient.
Wow That spindle looks really neat. the dying looks good too. I’m hoping to try my hand at that some time. I’ve signed up for a hand painted roving class at SAFF.
Oh, that dyed P&C makes me consider doing the same thing. Hmmm … Of course, with all the thousands of projects I have waiting in the wings, that’ll never happen!
Glad you had a good weekend!
This title sounds like it could also be classified as “Fair Food Gone Awry.” Very cool spindle.
And I’m glad to hear you had luck with the RIT dye. I’ve got a bucket I’ve been saving thinking maybe I’ll try my hand at some ritting.
OMG I love Jeff Dunham! We have our Tivo automatically record anything with him in it. I love love your spindle! You have some amazing friends my dear and beautiful colors in your dying.
That is TOO cool! If I was a spinner and he had an Etsy shop, I’d be convo-ing him right now for one with a hula girl! Hmmm, or maybe a hula boy…
OMG!!! I love that turtle spindle! You know how much I love turtles too!
Awesome spindle! Great job on the dyeing!
[...] growing ability with the spindle making craft. TurtleGirl was pretty happy with the one he made her (go look!) and I am thrilled with the one he made for [...]
How cool is that spindle?! So cute! And you’re becoming a dyeing machine!! Pretty purple
Such a cute spindle! And it’s custom made. That’s so cool!
