Inspiration in Many Colors
May 13th, 2008 by turtlegirl76
I’d seen it done many times. But never in Noro.
Then I saw Stacey wearing hers, and it finally hit me.
I HAD to have this capelet!
Noro was the answer to an otherwise uninspiring Anthropologie Inspired Capelet.
And Noro Taiyo was the perfect yarn for a spring and summer shrug. The cotton blend is nice and soft and light to wear.
2 skeins was all it took. And I had some leftover. I used Stacey’s mods for the needles used (Size 10) and the cast on numbers (57 stitches, split 8/10/21/10/8), and just increased until it fit. For me, that was 18 raglan increases.
I dorked out and forgot to have my official FO-tographer, Rip, get a picture of the detail below the arm. I continued the eyelet pattern down the side. That turned out pretty cool, but it is below the arms so it’s not like you really see it as I’m wearing it. But hey, I thought it was a nice touch.
A little bit of short row shaping at the back, and a lot of it on the arms helped make the fit of the garment absolutely perfect. Many thanks to the wonderful Jane Prater for the guidance on my first foray into short row shaping.
Instead of a button or a pin, I’ve opted to use a shawl pin. I have one in a pretty blue color that works with this as well. It’s a nice finishing touch to the garment.
Pattern:Anthropologie Inspired Capelet
Source: by Peony Knits
Yarn: Noro Taiyo 2 skeins in Color 6
Needles:US 10 Knit Picks Options
Started:April 27th 2008
Finished:April 30th 2008
Mods:Followed Stacey’s mods for cast on number and needle size, added short row shaping to the arms for a better fit, and a few short rows to the back so it laid a little flatter against the back.
Photos:Lisa’s husband, Rip, makes a return to the Bloggy thing after accepting the position as official FO-tographer after his last photoshoot.

I luv the shawl pin!! :o) Where can I get one of those?
And tell Rip he is about to have another ANTKnitter lined up for FO photos! LOL ;op
Gorgeous! It’s so bright & cheery!
Fantastic!! A great use for that yarn.
Darling and very flattering. You are so beautiful. You need your own magazine like Oprah so you can be on the cover every month.
Cristi! You need to stop being so awesome. Like, now. Stop it.
Failing that, I’d still like to be you when I grow up.
(and on a completely random note, what IS that blue liquid up there?)
It looks awesome in person, and your FO-tog is a genius because he makes it look even better. Or maybe it’s just the close-up. I’ve never seen it from 2 inches away.
I love it. I have wondered what I could make from this yarn and this definitely looks like a good way to go. and only 2 balls? fabulous. I really want to make a calpotis out of it. Sooooo expensive.
I like your FO-tographer. Does he use his own camera?
Love, Love, Love it! I have had this in my queue for a while but I may have to bump it up…I think it would be perfect for the days when the office A/C is set on Arctic!
Isn’t that a great pattern? So easily modifiable. Hm, maybe I need to think about a summer edition.
It looks so great! I love it!
Another hit! It looks great.
Hubba Hubba! It looks awesome. Very sexy photo shoot. Makes me want to sit outside, and sip adult beverages!
Beautiful!
I totally don’t mean this in a weird or creepy way, but you are seriously one of the most beautiful knitbloggers I know…You look incredible in these pictures and the shrug is beautiful!
As always, you AND your most recent finished object look fantastic
It looks fabulous dahlink! Sorry, I apparently channel the Howells before consuming my first cup of coffee. Love the many colors!
that is purty in Noro. I too have been uninspired by the original photo.
That looks fabulous! Noro was an excellent choice, especially that colorway.
Props to your FO-tographer, too. Great work
I love it when you model! That’s beautiful and suits you well.
It, and you, look FABULOUS! OMG, if I ever get down south I may become your stalker!
You know, at the rate you complete projects, if you keep having these FO shots with booze, you’ll wind up with cirrhosis of the liver!
Love the capelet, it’s the perfect spring item.
Beautiful pictures and Lovely caplet. I love mine too - I’m travelling next week and it’s going with me
Stacey started a new trend with her Tiayo choice!
Adorable! Both you and the knitting. Oh! And the shawl pin. Love!
Fabulous! And you a new (relatively speaking) knitter, too. How did you figure out where to put the short rows on the sleeves? Is the liquid in the glasses something you can drink, or is it just a photo-shoot prop? Don’t think I’d want to try the blue stuff.
Drool…..that is absolutely gorgeous! I definitely need to get me made some of these.
I love the colorway you used, it looks fantastic on you!
That turned out really great… love the colors!
Photographer and bartendar?? All of his photoshoots thus far have involved some alcohol?! My kind of photo shoot! Love the capelet in Noro…it looks fabulous on you! Great job!
Gorgeous garment, gorgeous photos, gorgeous model!
So who drank the blue drink and what are they?
Ooh, that is so pretty! I agree, the original is okay, but the Noro really kicks it up a notch, not to mention the custom fitting you did. I’ve got to get proficient at adding short rows to my sweaters so “the girls” don’t make them pull funny. Anyway, sign me up for finding out what’s in the blue drink, too!
Lovely yarn colour and you are right (like you need me to tell you this) that it does lift a plain pattern into something special.
Ooooh, pretty! I love the colorway you used, and it goes so well with the shawl pin (and the awesome colored martinis!)
Absolutely gorgeous. I love the colors and the pattern.
super picture…and there are not cats in the picture.
It looks great! Perfect color choice for summer. Pretty, pretty shawl pin, too. One has to wonder how you get so much knitting done with all this booze around. Do you knit faster in an alcohol-induced state?
Okay, I’m making a list (checkin’ it twice…):
Ivy League - beer… should’ve been anyway…
Anthropologie - Cosmopolitan
keep ‘em comin’!
Will you please stop adding things to my “must do” lists!! I love it, it is a great knit and the yarn is fab..and will you please stop looking so healthly too - cos of you I went out for a run the other day, I couldn’t move for 3 days afterwards either
Very nice, and the shawl pin closure is inspired!!
I think you should put Rip on retainer.
Oh wow! Now I’ve got to go get some noro. I haven’t seen this done in noro either until now. Fantastic job!
Wow.. that shrug is gorgeous! Congrats on such a beautiful finished object!
Nice t*ts. Perfect place for 2 googly eyes.
Just kidding - I LOVE your FO!
In Noro!
*heart heart heart*
Looking good kiddo, keep it up
love,
Anne
Fabulous!! You and the capelet! I so want to knit something in that yarn, it is amazing!
How fun for spring! That shawl pin is such a cool touch…really ties it all together (literally, too).
Thanks for the call, too!
Love ya sis,
Candi
Very nice…You finish a project quicker than I can finish a row…:)
Gorgeous and I love the button you used too!!! What beautiful work you do!!
I don’t do shrugs because they’re not nice to those of us with love handles, but seeing yours makes me reconsider…
Also now know that I must pick up some Noro Taiyo. I love the texture!
You had better knit some less revealing clothing there, missy. I don’t want to spend my free time beating inappropriately leering guys to death when you come for a visit. The appropriate ones I’ll let slide.
Wow! I was on the fence about this capelet for myself, but the Noro makes all the difference. Great job!
great colors and photography! (i need to get me one of those ‘rent-a-husband’ photographers!).
i’m beginning to think you have a closet full of noro ….
OMG! I love it!!! Seriously, I will knit something again someday. As soon as I get everything back into ONE place!!
Love, love, love it! Must have capelet just like that!
Wow! That is so pretty! It looks wonderful on you!
I love the colors.
WOW that is beautiful. I so want to knit it now! I haven’t tried that noro yet but I see it in my future soon.
Can I ask where you put the short rows? I have tried in the past using short rows in the boob area and on the back but some how I always put them in the wrong spot and then it looks weird.
Yummmmy.
That is soo pretty. The colors are so Spring. Excellent Job!
It looks fantastic. It IS ALOT of colors, but it doesn’t look the least bit gawdy! You’re wearing it girl! Nice job!
That yarn is perfect for that pattern. You always have the best photo shoots too!
The shawl pin really gives it such a finished look! I am knitting a similar mini cardi out of white. Yup, white! It will go with a white and navy sleeveless dress I am dying to wear!
I love it!! I have two skeins of Noro Kureyon left over from 28Thirty, but I think that design is too close to this one to make it from that. I do have a skein of Kochoran though, which might be warm but ok in the air conditioning…I made one already from Rowan Polar in pinky/purple but forgot about this pattern’s stash busting properties!
Christi you definitely have a sense of style!!!! Would you consider teaching a class at Charlotte Yarn on using short rows with this pattern? Throw in some tips on personal style.
The fitting of the caplet is very nice.
You rock!
