One advantage of going to Maryland Sheep & Wool this year, was that I got to be the first to receive my Artsygal Sock Club shipment for May! Hand delivered by the Artsy one herself.
I got the “Surprise Me!” option this month and boy, am I ever happy!
380 yards of 2 ply fingering weight merino & seacell superwash sock yarn.
Pardon me while I drool.
The colors are so subtle yet strikingly beautiful. The yarn is so freaking soft that I don’t want to put it down.
The blues and greens play so nicely against each other.
This will create quite a lovely pair of socks. I just need to find the perfect pattern for it. Though it may have to live around my neck for a little while first.
I’m so glad I joined her sock club. I managed to sneak in for the April shipment and got something quite different.
But that shipment, I didn’t choose the “Surprise Me!” option so of course I went for the colors that yelled at me.
You see, Artsygal screws with her sock club colorways with photoshop first, and you pick the swirl of color that appeals to you. Or you can be surprised. That surprise may be an entirely different base yarn from the rest. I think I’ll be going with the Surprise Me option from now on. Expand my horizons.a bit. Mmm….Seacell.

Nom. That looks like the awesomest sock yarn EVER.
Yum, I love the subtle variegation of those blues and greens. Nearly-solid is so hot right now!
Oh, wow. That is beautiful. Both are, actually, but the light blues/greens are too cool.
Purty. Oooh, you need a lacy pattern like Monkey or Pomatamus? Leaf lace? I love the semi-solid yarns - but this yarn is beyond gorgeous.
Love your pictures of it! Enough that I’m tempted to reach through the screen and grab it back! LOL! I guess that means I better get dyeing on the remaining skeins this weekend!
Oh goodness… the greens, the blues… that’s just, just… :thud:
Oooooh pretty! Love the subtle changes of the first one…
Excellent! I must stop buying sock yarn. It’s totally out of control. Yeesh!
That Artsygal looks fabulous.
Wow, Artsygal better be glad I wasn’t at MS&W, because if I saw her pull that out, I would have tackled her! Those are going to be some dropdead fantastic socks:)
Gorgeously subtle. It makes me think of mermaids. Something lacy, I think. You’ve perfected Pomatomous, but something else evocative of scales or those bizarrely beautiful lacy sea dragons would be gorgeous.
you’re in all the cool clubs! wwwaaahhh! Know that I’ve discovered I can knits gloves and mittens with sock yarn I might join one. What’s your favorite?
Pretty pretty! It looks like it has a silk-like sheen, too! Does seacell do that?
Pretty! Pretty! The first one looks like the ocean to me.
So pretty! The first one looks super super soft! I’d have a hard time picking between “surprise me” and not, but I think you’re right…go with the Surprise!
*ahem*
::esp waves activate!::
yooooooouuuuu nneeeeeeddd to maaaake Rivendell soooocks……
::end esp activity::
So, um, about that bluey-greeny sock yarn. whatchoo gonna make with it??
the first one is quite pretty, and her label clever. i’ve never gone with a yarn club, but, that’s okay … as i have ‘gallons’ of sock yarn!!!
seacell sockens …. i can’t wait to see what pattern you do pick out for the yarn.
I don’t see how you could go wrong no matter which way you choose. Artsygal has a real gift for color.
I drink your milkshake.
Beautiful! It really does look squishy and pretty and soft… Oh dear. It’s that yarn-craving voice again…
Anyhow, surprise and unexpected colors are 2 of the things I love about sock clubs. Sometimes, you’ll get introduced to a new colorway you never would have picked for yourself, but it’s so pretty and fun to work with. Then there are the yarns that look like crap inna skein, but when you knit them up, the result is positively heavenly…
I guess I’ll be doing the sock club thing again sometime soon.
Hi:
My sister Kristi has been telling me about your site, and I finally made it…I love knitting! Sox are my favorite, on four needles!
Unfortunately, I am in over my head in quilting right now so my needles are collecting dust.
Looking forward to stoppng in again.
Jill
So pretty. I think a traveling cable or something would really pop.
That is gorgeous yarn! Hehe..both greens for us this week! It look so soft!
Just thought I’d pop back to say I dyed the remaining 7 skeins this weekend. I may have to keep them ALL. Oh dear!
