Hill Country Hording
Apr 25th, 2008 by turtlegirl76
After having made the bluebell socks for my sister, Weezelana did a little research after my telling her that the squoosh factor of the Instant Gratification Sock Yarn was an 11 on a scale from 1-10. She found that DiscountYarnSale.com had it on sale for 50% off. Well. Now who’s the enabler? Warning - there’s an assload of pictures in this post.
This color is Shasta Daisy
Then of course, I had to get the Candy Corn colorway.
And well, then the Indian Summer found it’s way home with me.
And then, KnitDiva goes and starts a pair of socks out of the Hill Country Yarns Sweet Feet (the fingering version - equal on the squoosh factor) and I ordered some from the Loopy Ewe in a colorway called “Happy”. Something I really needed at the time.
I think KnitDiva may have convinced me to try two at once toe-up. I think I’ll use the instant gratification for my next attempt at this technique though. (Yes, I tried once back on my second pair of socks (like an idiot) and it didn’t go so well). The Hill Country Yarns are all just so freakin’ squooshy and sproingy. And I have Bezzie to thank for introducing it to me in the first place. Have you had your Cooter Rooted lately?

Oh, they’re gorgeous! The colours are so bright. I really need some of that here today.
*peers out of window at the gloom*
OOH I have some HCY just sitting over here waiting to be socks!! :op
And yep I enjoyed doing toe 2 at 1 time socks…not sure how you will like doing the heel though
Have a great weekend!
What totally gorgeous colourways - delicious!
Aw… did you buy that Shasta Daisy just for me? You’re too sweet.
(Did it work? :D)
Gorgeous stuff!
Wow - Yummy yarn day! I so don’t need to be tempted right now. Must.resist.more.yarn…………
Nice stash enhancement!
Go see my Pr0n for today. I lurves it!
I did not need to know about that sale, dammit.
What sale? Not hearing anything about no sale, nuh-uh.
Y’all are just *throwing* the colours of spring at my retinas. Must do something yellow today. It is still grey outside.
I used Indian Summer to make Crusoe from Knitty.com. I’m really happy with how they turned out and called them Indian Corn.

I love the yarn and so much enjoy knitting with it vs regular weight sock yarn.
These are all springy, summery, and bright colors (excepting Indian Summer) so I totally love them!
Phew. It’s a good thing all I colors I would want to buy are already gone. The stash management plan is still in effect.
ooooh, how do I pick a favorite?
Hehehehe. Payback’s a bitch. Well, okay, not really. Not when it comes to yarn.
Gorgeous colors! When I caved and bought some of the Instant Gratification (your fault!), Indian Summer was the one I bought two skeins of. Love it!
Eek! you got the Indian Summer colorway - yum! I really liked that one. It’s also the name of one of my favourite teas (Rooibos Indian Summer, it tastes like after the rain).
I’ve decided to stop being a lurker and be a commenter (although only when I feel the need to). Happy Pron Friday!
Those are great Spring colors!
Ohhh baby I’m weak at the knees with those gorgeous colors!!! I just want to stare at the purrty purrty yarn all day…
Oooh….I don’t have any of thaaaaat.
Mmmmm. Yum.
Yeah, it’s ok yarn, just a bit too much yellow for me
ha!!
My best hint for you knitting 2 at once toe up, do the toes separately, then put them both on the circular(s) needles. I also do this if knitting 2 cuff down. Much easier I think
Wow, those are gorgeous yarns! *drool*
Not only sqooshy, but vibrant as well! Can’t beat those colors! Perfect for spring!
I broke and ordered last week. Sale, right? I am now in Hill Country heaven along with you. I didn’t get Happy - love that color!
Hee hee, first hit’s free!!!
I’m drooling, please excuse me while I wipe down the keyboard…….
I think I just passed out in a cloud of imaginary yarn fumes. Those are gorgeous!
Great colours for great knitting!
I bought my first Hill Country from TLE … Sweet Feet in Rustic Lodge.
Then I had to cave on the sale at Discount Yarns. Got Instant Gratification in Candy Corn, Gig ‘em Aggies and Christmas, plus Sweet Feet in Be Mine (meh … trade-able) and Sundance.
Now I just need to spend my whole summer knitting socks. I have a whole damn cabinet of just sock yarn. Yeesh.
Those are so pretty! I think you better hide them from Zonda since I see some yellow in those hanks!
Beautiful, now I’m in the mood for summer, love the colors!

Neat trick if you are knitting 2 at once toe up - once you have about 5-6 inches knit, you can tuck each ball of yarn into it’s respective sock, which helps to keep them from getting all tangled together.
