Ivy League Vest
Apr 20th, 2008 by turtlegirl76
Indulge me for a moment while I proceed to post many, many pictures of the now completed Ivy League Vest.

You’ve all watched it grow since my first entry on it back on January 23rd.

The corrugated ribbing seemed to take forever. But, well, anything will seem to take forever when you only work on it at your knitting group every Wednesday.

It wasn’t until late February when I finally started working on it at home too. Things really started to progress on it then.

Then the steek stitches came into play and it wasn’t long until it was ready to be cut for the ribbing. Thank you, Stephanie, for helping me through the first cut.

Substituting the colors on this was easy enough. I knew there were really only 2 main colors in it that I wanted to change and would give the vest a whole different look from the original. The Woodsmoke became Salsa Heather and the Loden became Autumn Heather. All the other colors were kept, but I used the knitpicks versions. So the Oatmeal became Twig, Sandalwood became Brindle Heather, Pearl became Fog and then White stayed the same.

I didn’t have many ends to weave in once I was done. After I finished the corrugated ribbing, I took a tip from Eunny(Ravelry link) and used a spit splice to phase out the old color and introduce the new color.

This made my life a million times easier. For all those ends in the corrugated ribbing, I did a sort of french braid thing with them and woven the ends back into the braid.

I am so very proud of this knit. Now I can cross item #1 off of my Mission Possible list.

Not only did I knit it, but it fits perfectly! I was indeed freaked out over nothing. But I will say this: If I had not started Weight Watchers and working out, this sucker would be framed right now because there’s no way I would have been able to wear it 18 pounds ago.

I am a long time lurker of your blog, but had to delurk to tell you how much I love that sweater!!! It turned out beautifully! My husband saw me looking at it and he said, “Are you going to make that?” I told him “No way, I am just adoring this one!” All that colorwork makes me nervous. But seriously, you did a fabulous job!!!!
AHHHHH!!!!!!! Its done!!! And its more than gorgeous. YOU look gorgeous! You and this Ive League Vest could take on the world together. Really. It looks amazing, as do you, congrats on both.

Amazing. I love your vest and all those photos were worth it.
It needs to be stained with the blood of your competition. You know….those you had to stab repeatedly with your knitting needles to make sure you got the last hank of the color you needed.
Blood. There must be blood.
It looks fantastic! Perfect fit–congratulations!

Y’know, if I didn’t like you and think you were awesome, I’d hate you. I still can’t think of the right words to say how proud for you I am - on the vest, on looking great, on your weight loss - how the hell do you do it all?!?! It’s inspiring. Absolutely inspiring. And I’m still having trouble finding the words!
Wow! It looks fabulous! Good work.
You are gorgeous and the vest is an added bonus!

That is one sexy vest. Both in looks and execution. Just thinking about all those perfect floats in the back gets my inner engineer all riled up! And you look fantastic in it Cristi! The colors and fit are perfect, and you’re practically beaming
Maybe someday I’ll be up to the task of a giant stranded beast, but I need to finish my Fiddlehead Mittens first!
Wow! That vest is incredible and you look AMAZING in it! Congrats on WW (lifetime member here…)!!! I found your blog through JP - my fellow Disney-phile - and really enjoy reading your adventures. =) I aspire to knit something like that someday!
Wow. There just aren’t enough words. Both you and the vest look phenomenal. You are so photogenic and talented! Way to go, on the vest completion, as well as the weight losss. Kudos to you for keeping it up! **Hugs**
Bloody hell! That is amazing! What a fantastic FO…I am in awe…and you look fab too, what an inspiration to get the needles out AND start running. Thank you x
Fantastic! It looks gorgeous on you!
Awesome job! It looks store bought!!
It’s the “Stephanie Steek Vest!” You did an amazing job on this one!
And congrats on the weight loss too! That part is harder than knitting the vest.
The vest is awesomer than awesome! Really, your color choices worked out wonderfully and it fits you perfectly. Perhaps all of my knitwear will look better if I drop 20 pounds? Hmmm.
Just gorgeous! And suits you perfectly, too!
The KnitPicks Palette is a thinner yarn than the Harrisville Shetland style, so I’m not surprised your FO was a bit smaller than planned. But it all worked out perfectly.
I like your color choices much more than the original ones.
