Mission Possible 2008
Jan 23rd, 2008 by turtlegirl76
I’m still slogging away on my mother’s birthday socks.
I’ll be kicking into overdrive on these this week. Her birthday is February 5th so I’m cutting it close. But today, let’s talk about goals for the year. This WiP Wednesday, I’ll be fessing up to joining in La’s Mission Possible 2008. Here are the rules:
The saying goes that yarn and fiber does not have an expiration date. This is about change. Fiber that has been sitting in your stash…
Find it!
Remember when you bought it!
Remember what did you want to do with!
Look for:12 things – could be 12 balls of sock yarn for 12 pairs of socks
12 balls of yarn that you refuse to throw out or that are left over from another project
12 balls of roving
12 WIPs
12 UFOs…
The clock is ticking. Everything – meaning the 12 things you picked - needs to be gone by December 31, 2008. It is up to you to achieve your goal and finish 12 possible missions. You can
Fullfill its original destiny!
Do something completely different!
Donate it!
Throw it out!
Set it on fire! But then we want to see the video on YouTube!
The goal is to get these 12 items out of your stash by the end of 2008!And here are a few rules:
You commit to the 12 tasks and put your list on this Ravelry group.
You finish all of your tasks by December 31, 2008.
If you don’t accomplish your goal, you will have to donate the selected items.
So this is what I’ve come up with:
1) Knit the Ivy League Vest - For Me
I started it! I’ve had the yarn since late November or Early December. I put it off because of the Holidays, and I know this is going to take me some time. So, here I start.
256 stitches per round. Can you say “long term”?
2) Knit the Central Park Hoodie - For Me
3) Knit the Endpaper Mitts - For my sister Cheri
4) Knit Muir - For Me
5) Knit the Show Your Colors shawl (The first pattern of the Stitch ‘n Bitch 2008 page a day calender)
6) Knit the Rib Warmer (waiting on pattern to come in) - For me
7) Spin at least 1 bag of the Mohair/Merino blend I bought at SAFF (I bought 2 - if spinning the one starts to throw me into fits, it’ll be destashed.)
Spin the silk hankies I got at MDSW
9) Spin a full 8oz of the same fiber (lots of what I have is 4oz)
10) Knit socks from the Merino/Tencel blueberry yarn I spun last year
11) Destash at least 20 skeins of yarn. This will require another re-evaluation of my stash, being realistic about what I will and will not ever knit up.
12) Knit 24 Hats for Alex this year. (2 down, 22 to go)
Yeah, did ya see #11? Stay tuned. I’ll be starting to destash soon. Right here on the blog. I’ll probably make a page for it, but y’all will be the first to know.

You are brave. I should do the Mission Impossible thing too, but…nah! I’ll just watch you.
P.S. Pretty socks.
I just went window shopping on your Ravelry stash page! I look forward to the announcement :-).
Great list! Sounds adventurous. I need to get going on Hats for Alex..
Ambitious goals! The sweater looks lovely so far.
Ooh, I could do this. Especially if I can count the yarn I got as Christmas presents as stash. I’m not sure I’ll officially sign up, but I’ve been thinking I should set some goals for 2008, and I’m nearly done with my first pair of socks from Christmas present yarn. I’m going for (woo woo!) one FO per month, if you can believe how sad a goal that is
Maybe this will spice it up a bit.
Ivy League Vest looks awesome, by the way! I love your list. It’ll be fun to watch these.
Include me in for #7. I have a silk hankie and no idea what to do with it.
You should send all your destash yarn to ME. ahem.
I like the colors you’ve got going for your vest!
I like the goals. I think that Ivy Leauge Vest will be a favorite! I like how the colors are working up. I’m also looking forward to seeing you do those hankies. MAybe you can take some action shots of that. I just bought 8 oz of merino/mohair. I’m hopinh that will go well too.
I could do this if it was small projects, but considering that my stash is basically just one or two balls of this or that, I guess it would be fitting.
You can count on me for #11 if your destashing sock yarn. My birthday’s in March and I plan on stashing up some yarn I’ve never knit with. Which after seeing your stash in person, is pretty much all your stash. Also, the Ivy League vest is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L Gorgeous!
The vest looks like it could be really interesting! Can’t wait to see more progress. The amount of colorwork you do really tempts me to try to get brave and try it myself! LOL But, I have socks to finish first. As for the “Mission Possible,” it sounds like a great, if ambitious, idea. With my stash still mostly in boxes, and knowing that it is almost all acrylic (yes, I was quite naive in the ways of yarn, as it is cheap acrylic), I could easily just skip to the “donate” stage.
Will be looking forward to your destash - because your yarn (what I’ve seen or heard about, anyway) is so much *hotter* than anything I’ve ever even pawed at… LMAO
Good for you with “Mission: Possible” I’m best staying in station-to-station land. Unfortunately, I seem to have stalled on my January sweater finishing project, but I figure I got sidetracked for a good cause — Hubster decided he wanted at Cobblestone and I’ve never knit anything for him besides Fuzzy Feet
Socks and Ivy League vest are both looking great!
you’re so brave! I thought about joining that group but couldn’t commit to give away anything I didn’t finish. Of course you’ll probably get all yours done by June LOL
Well now, that’s an excellent list of… *runs to look at your stash on Rav*
What a great challenge–and you are so ambitious! I too could not stand to give away the things I couldn’t finish–especially since my knitting time is governed by an ever-fluctuating work schedule. In any event, I don’t need another stinking deadline!
The Ivy League Vest is looking good! Where is that pattern from?
Woohoo for FINALLY joining Mission Possible. I do have one correction though. The idea is all Jen’s & Claudia’s (Bavgirl), I’m just a joiner pulling others in where I can. You know, misery loves company and all that.
Now I’m going to scroll back up and check out your goals.
A Muir? Yay! We should have an impromptu KAL, cos that’s on my to do list as well. It’s a birthday knit for my mom, and considering that this is my first lace shawl-y type project, and that my mom’s b-day is in mid March, I need all the ass-kicking i can muster
I am so in your corner to cheer you to victory! And the Ivy League Vest is going to be gorgeous.. I love the colors!
This challenge sounds great.
I probably have more than 12 wips right this minute…
I’ll have to check this out after work — there’s only so much work time I can spend online (also my pics are on my home computer!)
Yikes…I need to do this…I love the colors in the vest though!
I’ve had my eye on the Show Your Colors shawl too (though I have to say that I really hate the color used in the model… pastels = ick). Looks like a pretty easy knit.
I love that sock! Such a beautiful pattern, and the purple is to die for.
Mission Possible is a great idea. Except that my WIPs are all knit up and in need of seaming… they’re more like finishing UFO’s, really. Ugh.
Very ambitious, but I am sure you will do it. Should you not do it, I’ll disavow any knowledge of your blog. I really like the colors for the Ivy League vest.
Gorgeous colours on the vest. What pattern is that? Also, I am coveting your Mother’s birthday socks. I must drive to Charlotte and have you teach me to knit socks.
Tag! Come read my blog for instructions!
I had to cast on the Embossed Leaf socks when I saw yours. Thanks for the great inspiration!
Fabulous idea!! And a very ambitious 12 things I must say!
The sweater colors are beautiful too!
It looks like the Ivy League Vest is off to a good start. That is a lot of color work and some really small needles. I have a few fair isle sweaters I would like to make, but I am still a little nervous about my tension.
[...] all watched it grow since my first entry on it back on January [...]
