For Those of You On Ravelry
Jun 30th, 2007 by turtlegirl76
And not to rub it in to those who aren’t, but if you’ve been enjoying Ravelry, now’s the time to step up and donate. Jess and Casey are about to take a huge risk and devote all their time to Ravelry. They’re off to celebrate with friends and family this weekend, so let’s surprise them when they get back with a show of our support. How do we show this? The best way we can. With cash. Just a few dollars multiplied by the hundreds or even thousands even that are enjoying Ravelry right now will go a long way. So go hit that donate button! I did.

You are so right! I often think, what can I do, I don’t have a lot. But, if everyone donated $5 a month, they’d have plenty to live on and build up the bestest website ever for us! $5 a month is 1 fast food meal (the cheap kind, even).
I can do that!
Thanx for the reminder!
I liked that idea about having pay and free areas like flickr but I don’t remember how that debate panned out. The site is running waaay slow at the moment so I’ll send a donation in a while. I’m curious about their advertising sales as well.
I think I donated a few hours after the button went up! The risk they’ve taken is incredible, and I really hope it pays of for them.
I’ll donate when my resolve weakens and I join. So far, I’ve been doing OK, but I can’t see the Ravelry abstinence lasting.
As much as I love Ravelry, donating right now for me is out of the question. I want to see what this site turns into after several months or even a year. Additionally, I have to assume that the owners of Ravelry have given good thought to being self-employed and what all it entails. I would hope that they have prepared themselves for the lean times, and there are always lean times. I work outside the home, but my husband and I own a business and know full well what happens. So in writing this, I will donate when I believe the time is right. Of course, I wish them the best, and I hope a year from now I will still feel the same way, and then I will feel better and possibly even obligated to help.
Hear! Hear! I wasn’t in Ravelry for more than a day before I sent them a chunk of change. When I’m settled in and working again, I’m going to send more. They are taking a big risk to make a corner of the web for us to play in, so I am ALL for supporting their efforts!
Heck, when I think of how much $$ I can spend in a yarn shop, my donation was a BARGAIN!!
I donated as soon as they put the link up - but I do think they really need to start charging for memberships if this is going to be their sole source of income. I would totally pay!! You know some people won’t donate unless they are forced to.
