Maryland Sheep & Wool Day 2
May 10th, 2007 by turtlegirl76
Creative title, eh? I’m good like that. So, to recap, Day 1 started out with an hours wait at The Fold. Here’s what it looked like when they unveiled their booth.
By day 2 this is what it looked like.
And no, that is not STR that’s left. On the bottom corner of the wall you’ll see a few heavyweight left. One of those skeins was adopted by Trillian42 and is now becoming my Red Dwarf Socks. (So y’all know, Socks that Rock Heavyweight is a perfect substitution for the Wick.)
Day 2, Roxy was finally able to join us after a long cinco de mayo shift at work. What a loon.
After the SuperFug shoot, we dined on a lunch of roasted cashews, pecans and almonds.
Found creative ways of telling people what to do:
Foolproof ways of making a perfect sized shawl:
Fondled Giant hanks:
Saw some Big Balls:
Knit on some scarves for the Red Scarf Project:
We tempted by some Claudia handpaints:
Fondled some pretty (big) yarn:
Artsygal was drawn to this one:
Took many more pr0nny shots:
This is some soft as hell stuff called Optim that I ended up wearing around my neck the rest of the day.
Saw how brooms are made:
Saw Big (Walking) Wheels:
And a Castle Wheel that was hella expensive:
Saw a vest that could rival the fug:
She told us while we were perusing her roving that “You can knit straight from this stuff!” Yes, we see.
I saw some funny mugs:
Funny pins:
Awesome prize winning socks:
A prize winning cabled cardigan with a DNA cable running up either side:
A beautiful mitered blanket in memory of a local knitter, Jane Hyland:
Gorgeous lace shawls:
A spiral of handspun hanks of yarn:
Let’s just say we saw a lot of cool stuff and had a great day. Tonight, I shall do my first photo shoot of the stuff I bought over the weekend. What would you all like to see first? The Socks that Rock that I got? An Angora, Merino and Silk blended poof of roving? Or the O So Soft Alpaca I bought with a lace shawl in mind?

Thanks for giving us a photo diary of your trip to MD!
Dang it! @ The Fold pic You KNOW you could have gotten me a purple hank!! I would’ve paid you back!! Shish! :op
LOL @ fondled giant hanks & saw big balls!
I want to see some STR on Pr0n Friday! WHOA!
Oh I wanna see some big balls!
if not, they angora/silk/merino!
Oh and sweet! I have leftovers of STR heavy weight! I should have enough to make another pair of Red Dwarfs!
I am having serious fiber overload……amazing pictures!!
heh….sheep happens
If I could only get my hands on those big balls… But no, I’ve got to stick to the ones I already have at home…
Those sheep happen pins were awesome.
What to photograph first? ‘PACA! Always start with Alpaca! It’s the most wonderful thing in the WORLD!
Be still my beating heart. I’d be lost at somewhere like that with so much to see and buy, I wouldn’t know where to start and it looks like you blink and everything’s gone.
Wow. Just wow. Looks like you had a fantastic time.
Awww, looks awesome! And sooo many cool people. One day I think you all should visit ME and my sheepies and fiber fests!
Beautiful yarn - I’m jealous of all of your purchases! I got to The Fold’s booth just after 9 a.m. and endured more than 1.5 hours of waiting in line - first to check out the goods, then to pay for them!
OH MY GOD!
I live in DC, but I couldn’t make it to MDSW because of my final exams. Needless to say, I am so jealous. It looks like you had an amazing time!
I stumbled on your ‘blog - I am so excited to see the DNA sweater! Would it be all right if I posted a pic (with credit and a link to your ‘blog) on my site?
I love the before and after pics of the STR wall!
You know, now when I see anyone wearing a red scarf, I feel sorry for them for not having parents! I wonder if the rest of the world knows about red scarves!
this is SO great. Love this post. I got to live vicariously through you. I laughed, I cried (at the vest), all in all, it was a great experience (reading your blog.)
Was that…was that…a WALL of Socks That Rock? I’ve…I’ve…lost the ability to speak…blugga ugga wugga….
STR Heaven!!! See, I would just want to stop and look at all the pretty colors…decide which ones I like, walk around and look at them all, then pick a few to take home. But I’m sure there were so many people around that STR you just have to grab the one you think you like right away? I can’t imagine! Well worth the wait anytime though!! Thanks for the before and after shots!
SO. JEALOUS.
Need to move to MD.
Great MDSW photos! So, you got there early enough to see the Socks that Rock booth?! All I got to see was what your 2nd day photo looks like.
