Maryland Sheep & Wool Day 1
May 9th, 2007 by turtlegirl76
Warning - picture heavy post.
I have so many pictures to share with you from my weekend. I had a great time with Trillian42 & Artsygal and as always, MrTrillian42 was there to document it all. I know y’all want to see my haul but you’ll just have to be satisfied with this picture for now:
Yeah, those big boxes? They’re this. I had to have it after I saw Pam’s and as I’m in a neverending quest to increase the storage capacity in my condo while reducing the clutter, who could blame me? Oh, you want to see what I bought at the Sheep & Wool festival, do ya? Again, take a look at the pic of me spinning at Pam’s house that night. That pile in the background? Mine. Granted, I did buy some stuff for a few other people so it’s not all mine but it’s enough. Besides, if I flashed it all now I’d be wasting a good string of YPF posts now wouldn’t I? So you’ll just have to keep coming back on Fridays to see my haul.
Ok. To start it all off, Friday night we were able to meet up with Stariel and TheOtherAmanda at a really shiney diner (literally, not Firefly shiney) where our WIPs communed and freaked out the locals.
Saturday morning we immediately headed to The Fold’s booth. We were lucky enough to be 4,5 and 6 in line. Who was ahead of us? Ajastoy and LICraftgal! I couldn’t have asked to spend a more enjoyable hour than the 5 of us had just hanging out and waiting. Those two are a trip. The unveiling of the yarn happened at 8:45 so that 15 minutes of lusting was spent pointing out what we were heading for first. After we paid, we hit a bunch of other booths and had to make a trip back to the car before the knitty meetup at noon. We met back up with Stariel, TheOtherAmanda, LICraftGal and Ajastoy and were able to meet Buckyknits (whom I believe to be blogless, sadly)!
Alicec also swung by as well as Carrie and her mom. Check out Carrie’s awesome Crocheted skirt that she wore on day 2.
Made out of Lion Brand Microspun! Sadly, her backpack was rubbing on it all day and it started to show wear by mid-day. We’re hoping that a little TLC with a sweater shaver will save it.
After that we headed to the blogger meetup on the grassy knoll (as it’s come to be called) where I was able to finally meet my first Knittyboard SP Jochibi!
She’s so funny. It was wonderful to finally meet her. Too bad her cute lil girl Willow couldn’t make it. I’d also spotted Minty Fresh earlier and she’d said she’d be at the grassy knoll later. So when I spotter her there I turned and said to her “Minty are you going to come hang out with us?” She laughed and sat down with us for a little while. It was so nice to meet her in person too. Just as funny in person as on her blog.
On the right there you can see frecklegirl, brain child of Ravelry. (To which I’m eagerly awaiting my invite) Also there, (behind Artsygal) were Buttercup (formerly Ladybug42 on the knittyboards) and Shannon from the SSK Podcast (which I listened to last night and thoroughly enjoyed.) We took pictures of each other.
Buttercup showed off the Fleece Artist she scored (that I never did see).
We also met JavaJem (who got to witness the fug shoot first hand on day 2) and Kelpknits (who has posted her dotted cat bed pattern - I see this in Calvin’s future) - I tell ya, humor is something that knitters sure have in common. Everyone I met made me laugh. These socks didn’t make me laugh. They nearly made me cry at the thought of how much work went into them.
Not my cup of tea as far as pattern and colors go but WOW. Not one single knitter there could deny the talent and time those things took to create. I do believe they belong to this blogger.
After we left the grassy knoll, Artsygal tested out a bunch more wheels, we bought a bunch more fiber, and ate the biggest eclairs you could ever feast your eyes on. Artsygal has kindly posted some pictures to show you just how big they are. Incidentally, that poof of fiber (yes, that’s what it said on the reciept. “Poof”) she shows with her spindle - I bought an identical one.
Tomorrow, Roxy joins us for Day 2 of the festival. We had fun with her. See?

Great pics! It was such a fun day. Nice haul too!!
How fun that you were able to meet up with so many fellow knittyheads! I can only imagine the yarn pr0n that’s comin’. I plan on weeping.

Awesome chronicle of the weekend. My skirt has survived, thanks! I wore it to work yesterday, with far less disastrous results. Can’t wait for your future yarn pr0n

Looks like you all had a fantastic time. It is great to be able to put names to faces
Hallelujah! For whatever reason the photos are showing for this and the fugly post. (Great photo shoot by the way of the tangerine Grover of knitting.) Thanks for sharing the fun.
And I may miss Charlotte Knitting Group tonight due to a family dinner.
I’m funny in person? And on my blog? really?
Expedit is my most favoritest thing ever; i had one in my old office in Philly and was so smitten I got one for my apartment here. It’s slowly filling up (with books, not yarn).
It was excellent meeting you guys!
