Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off

Calvin’s not the only master of the smackdown here.
Smell that? It’s the sweet smell of victory. Challenge me when there’s sock yarn at stake, eh? Well, of course I’m going to put all other projects aside and knit on the challenge full time. Before work, stop lights, car rides with co-workers, lunch breaks, evenings, etc. After all, I had Pam chasing me. Ok, so she did start a day after me and I did have the advantage of knitting a smaller size but still. I even waited for it to be washed and blocked before declaring my victory here on ye olde bloggy thing.
I can’t begin to tell you how much I love this sweater. It fits like a dream. I followed the directions for the 35 1/2″ size, and I am a 37″ bust. I’m really catching on to this negative ease thing. The detail “finished bust size” always mystified me but now I get it. So thank you, Wendy, for a perfect fit! And Thank You, Amy, for introducing me to it! Incidentally, my size called for 5 hanks of the Blue Sky cotton but I totally could have done it with just 4. I only broke into the 5th hank after I finished the first lengthened sleeve.
Pattern: Tomato
Source: No Sheep For You by Amy R. Singer
Yarn: Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton
4 and some Hanks Color #621 (Expresso) and 1 hank #609 (Shrimp)
Needles: US 6 & 7
Started: Sunday April 22
Finished: Saturday April 28
Modifications: Added length to the sleeves, making them a total of 5 inches long from underarm. I knit them with the smaller needles, and followed the instructions for decreasing 8 stitches one round after I picked up the stitches from the waste yarn. I knit for 3.5 inches in stockinette and did 10 rounds of ribbing (to match the neckline ribbing).

You look absolutely GAWJUS in that sweater. WOW, you’re just bangin’ out those summer tops huh?
I love it!
Wow, that looks great on you! I didn’t love the sweater in the book but now I’m getting ideas. I think you and I have a similar body type, so things that look good on you…hmmm…
Whitwhoo - it sure makes you look ‘hot!’ ;=)
Well done - lovely knit.
Loving the smackdown photo! GinjaNinja -strikes again!
(J has lots of the GinjaNinja books- they are very funny and the main character seems much like Calvin).
That looks fabulous…and fits you like a glove. And only a week! Very impressive.
I love it! That looks great.
Love love love it! It fits you fabulously!! Gorgeous! I love the color combos you picked too. Great job!
Wow girl, you’re bringin’ sexy back!
Hot damn, girlfriend. You make anything look good, but you did a fab job on that sweater. Enjoy the hell out of it.
I have this book and completely over looked this pattern until you knit it. It looks great on you! And I already thought you were the fasted knitter around!
I have to ask, what is “negative ease” ?
/me claps hands excitedly. Great job! I like the longer sleeves, too.
Unbelievable! You look stunning in it. Why don’t you do a write up or tutorial for us “green” knitters re: negative ease and “finished bust size”?
What a fabulous sweater! It fits perfectly. What a nice job you’ve done.
I LOVE the smackdown pic. That is truly priceless.
WOW. Congrats on beating Pam to the finish line
It looks awesome, I might have to make myself one now!
Fabulous!! Looks great and fits you so well!! Yay!!!
it looks really nice. i like the colors you chose.
[...] That is eight hanks of Cascade Luna, gorgeous cotton yarn, all in one dye lot. And the price? $3 each. I’m thinking it’s going to be Tomato from No Sheep For You - it’s something I’ve been thinking about lately after seeing some pictures on other blogs I read - I though about Mission Falls 1824 Cotton for it…which brings me to my next little purchase. [...]
Holy smackdown woman, you cranked that out fast! And it’s gorgeous! Looks great on you too!
The cat swipe pic is too funny - next thing you know, they’ll be on Pay Per View in a cage fight.
That sweater looks fabulous on you! Also, good job on beating Pam in a knit off.
The sweater looks great - congrats on the “quick knit” of it!
You are wearing it well girl!!
I like that you lengthen the sleeves, glad you changed your mind.
Again you look wonderful in your Tomato!!
So what do you get for the friendly rivalry? Pure satisfaction? :o)
Freaking awesome! You guys ARE going to wear them on the same day when you’re frolicking at the MD wool shindig right?
Holy moly! That looks fantastic! And you look like a million bucks in it! Great job!
Holy cow–another cute sweater that looks great on you. I love it! I might have to make one of those too…
Congrats on your win!
I love that sweater - it looks gorgeous on you, the style, the colours. I hope mine will look as good - thanks for the tip by the way!
